French President Emmanuel Macron went further than he has before and called for a ceasefire in Gaza during remarks at a humanitarian aid conference in Paris. “We need to work harder to protect civilians. We need a very quick humanitarian pause and we need to work toward a cease-fire,” he said at the Elysée Palace.
The conference was attended by other heads of state and diplomats, and was intended to be a working summit to discuss urgent means of delivering humanitarian aid into the crisis zone. Politico reports that there were a lot of nuances and disagreements over the use of the word “ceasefire,” with many repeating the absurd narrative that this will only benefit Hamas.
One attendee who joined Macron in calling for a ceasefire was Ireland’s Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who said “the absolute priority is a ceasefire that would be observed by all parties.”
