GCC Opens in Qatar, Demanding UN Force Israel To Negotiate

The Gulf Cooperation Council opened today in Doha, Qatar with Emir Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad al-Thani calling for the UN Security Council to get serious about making Israel return to the negotiating table. According to Al-Arabiya's report, he stated: “It is shameful for the international community to allow this heinous crime to continue for nearly two months, during which the systematic and deliberate killing of innocent civilians continues, including women and children.”

Instead of pauses in between fighting, he said, a complete ceasefire is needed. “Tragedies could have been avoided if Israel had recognized the Palestinians’ right to a state,” he said. But now, “Israel has violated humanitarian and moral standards” and targeted fragile infrastructure and cut all vital supplies. The principle of self-defense does not permit Israel to “commit genocide crimes.”
