Xi Jinping Writes to Longtime Iowa Friend To Urge More People-to-People Exchanges

As reported by South China Morning Post today, Chinese President Xi Jinping has written a letter to his longtime friend Sarah Lande of Muscatine, Iowa, the town he visited 40 years ago as a 31-year-old, praising the role of “ordinary people” in advancing U.S.-China relations and urging that more people-to-people exchanges take place. As SCMP explains, Ms. Lande is known as a “citizen diplomat,” who actively promotes such exchanges “between Iowa and the globe.”
