Iraq’s National Security Advisor: There Is Consensus on Expelling US Troops

Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji said on Saturday, “There is a consensus on the withdrawal of foreign forces. The Iraqi government will sign bilateral security agreements with the countries that are part of the coalition against the Daesh terrorist group.” Araji made the remarks on the sidelines of the Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, according to a report in Press TV.

There has recently been disagreement within the Iraqi government as to the presence of specifically American troops stationed there. The issue reached a boiling point following the war in Gaza, when rebel groups across the region began attacking US troops, leading to brutal counterattacks within Iraq which were condemned by the Iraqi government as an attack on their sovereignty.
