March 7, 2024 (EIRNS)—Tens of thousands of farmers and other protesters rallied in Warsaw yesterday, though without tractors or other heavy vehicles, which police had banned from the Polish capital. The protest was joined by members of the conservative Solidarnosc agricultural union, whose leader, Piotr Duda, shouted at the rally: “We are on the side of the farmers. We must throw the Green Deal in the garbage can.” In front of the government building, the demonstrators symbolically burned a coffin with the inscription “A farmer—he lived 20 years, the Green Deal killed him.”

The protest action was not limited to Warsaw. Demonstrators blocked the A2 highway between Poznan and Lodz and the S7 expressway between Gdansk and Elblag.
