March 15, 2024 (EIRNS)—Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov yesterday found the comment of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that “Russia’s nuclear rhetoric has been reckless and irresponsible throughout this conflict” to be an “absolutely deliberate distortion” of President Vladimir Putin’s televised interview on March 13.

Putin had made clear that Russian nuclear policy had not changed, that they would be used if the existence of the nation of Russia were at stake; that he gave President Biden credit for being “old school,” implying that Biden would actually evaluate strategic risks, assumedly without playing games on such a serious matter; and confirmed that “such idea did not even occur” to him to use tactical nuclear weapons.
