April 5, 2024 (EIRNS)—Gen. Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the Russian General Staff, told a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) chiefs of staff meeting in Moscow yesterday, that the West is the main threat to strategic stability around the world. “Recent events show that the West is systematically destroying the foundations of strategic stability and those of international security institutions,” he said, according to a Russian Defense Ministry statement. “It is not without external influence that hotbeds of tension are emerging in various parts of the world, and international terrorism with the support of shadowy sponsors continues to be a global threat to peace,” he said further. “Under these conditions, the challenges to the Commonwealth States are increasingly real and varied, and it forces us to have well-equipped and trained armed forces.”
