JPMorgan Chase’s Asia Pacific CEO, Sjoerd Leenart, in an interview with CNBC on May 23 at the 20th annual Global China Summit in Shanghai, pushed back against some of the de-coupling fantasies that are currently prevalent in Western countries. “You can’t ignore it [China], you have to do business there. Even if you decide not to do business there, you need to understand what’s going on,” Leenart said. What happens in China “influences every industry around the world… it’s an incredibly important place,” he added.

And “despite the rhetoric, we see a lot of international companies investing in China,” Leenart said.
