Iran Inaugurates Key Rail Link in the International North South Transport Corridor

Iran inaugurated the 37 km rail line between the Iranian city of Rasht and the strategic port of Anzali on the Caspian Sea this morning. It is the last link in the Rasht railway to the Anzali port, via Rasht to the city of Qazvin, where it enters the main Iranian railway network. The project is one of the key links to complete the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC) that crosses Eurasia from St. Petersburg, Russia to Mumbai, India.

Attending the ceremony were acting President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber; Mehrdad Bazrpash, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development; Igor Levitin, aide to the President of the Russian Federation; Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Igor Babushkin, Governor of Astrakhan Oblast in Russia; and ambassadors of the neighboring countries.
