The new Foreign Minister of Belarus Maksim Ryzhenkov, arrived in Pyongyang on July 25 for talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui. The unprecedented visit follows the June 19 strategic treaty between Russia and the D.P.R.K., effectively breaking some of the isolation of North Korea. The parties discussed in detail the entire block of bilateral issues and agreed on specific steps to intensify contacts between the countries at various levels. The Belarus delegation also included several other ministers.
According to a Belarus Foreign Ministry statement, “Agreements were reached on the next steps to further develop the legal framework and intensify cooperation between the foreign policy departments, as well as in a number of areas. These include healthcare, education, agriculture, culture and sports,” the Foreign Ministry said. “The ministers noted the coincidence of their positions and agreed to continue to make joint efforts to advance towards a fair multipolar world order.”
