Within the next week or so, the Science4Peace activist group at CERN—best known for the Large Hadron Collider—will be issuing a statement with a dire warning not to allow the military into civilian research. It reads:

• the EU Commission has proposed breaking down the hermetic separation between civilian and military research;
• The German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) called for “funding incentives to increase cooperation between civilian and military research”;
