China Trade Surplus in June Reaches Record of Nearly $100 Billion

China’s trade surplus surged to a record $99 billion in June of this year, reported the July 13 New York Times, using data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China. Most countries which have a trade surplus do not record that level even over the course of an entire year. Western sanctions on China, apparently, have not deterred nations from trading with it. Yet, both the Biden and Trump campaigns boast of further sanctions and/or tariffs on Chinese goods.

Compared to June 2023, China’s exports rose by 8.6% to $308 billion, while its imports slid by 2.3% to $209 billion. In 2023, China exported $3.38 trillion in manufactured goods, making China the world’s largest manufacturing goods exporter, and as well, the largest manufacturing economy. China exports broadcasting equipment, computers, machine tools, and machine equipment, semiconductors, automotive vehicles, and, of course, the heavy machinery and equipment for constructing great projects.

Finding a way to increase imports from other countries is an issue for China.
