Russian President Vladimir Putin met last night in the Kremlin with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. They discussed concerns about the danger of escalation of tensions in Southwest Asia as well as bilateral relations. This was their first meeting since March 15, 2022.

Putin said that they had had the “opportunity to discuss the entire range of our relations as well as the situation in the region as a whole. Regrettably, we see that it tends to deteriorate. This directly concerns Syria,” reported the Kremlin. The two also discussed trade and economic ties.
