Germany’s Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht party (BSW) has denounced plans to station U.S. long range missiles in Germany. With their compliant approval of Washington’s missile plans, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his government “are making Germany a target,” explains Sevim Dagdelen, the foreign policy spokeswoman of the BSW Group in the Bundestag and chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee declared. “The population should be able to decide in a referendum whether they want further U.S. offensive weapons on German soil or whether they support disarmament and all-round security in Europe.

“The stationing of Tomahawk cruise missiles and other U.S. offensive weapons is not a contribution to security in Germany and increases the risk of a Third World War. It is scandalous that the United States is using Germany like a U.S. aircraft carrier,” Dagdelen said.

“Ending the war in Ukraine through a peace of understanding is more urgent than ever. The commitment to an ‘irreversible path of Ukraine into NATO’ at the summit in Washington is not a contribution to a peace solution, but a program for a continuation of the war. With its summit decisions, such as the establishment of the NATO headquarters for Ukraine in Wiesbaden, NATO is increasingly taking the risk of direct war involvement against Russia.

“Instead of squandering vast sums of taxpayers’ money on ever more gifts of weapons to Ukraine and the development of its own long-range weapons, a responsible German government must invest in the restoration of a functioning infrastructure in Germany.

“The global orientation and delimitation of the military pact agreed at the NATO summit is a complete mistake. Instead of relying on an expansion of the confrontation policy against China, there needs to be a reorientation towards diplomacy, ceasefire negotiations, and a disentanglement of the major powers.”
