There seems to be no limits to Israeli savagery against the Palestinians. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bombed yet another school acting as a shelter in Gaza, the Tabaeen school in Gaza City where some 6,000 people, families with children, were being sheltered. The reports of the number of civilians killed vary from 60 to more than 100. The IDF struck without warning in the early morning before sunrise, as people were praying at a mosque inside the school, according to Abu Anas, a witness who worked to rescue people. He told AP: “There were people praying, there were people washing and there were people upstairs sleeping, including children, women and old people,” he said. “The missile fell on them without warning. The first missile and the second. We recovered them as body parts.”
Videos obtained by Middle East Eye showed charred bodies and limbs strewn across a concrete floor, as people scrambled to find their loved ones following the attacks. Another video appeared to show dozens of bodies covered in cloth and laid out in a courtyard.
“The occupation army directly bombed the displaced people while they were performing the dawn prayer,” Gaza’s government media office said in a statement. “Due to the horror of the massacre and the large number of martyrs, medical teams, civil defense, and relief and emergency teams have not been able to recover the bodies of all the martyrs so far.”
The IDF claimed that Hamas was using the school as a “command center,” though it provided no evidence. The army said it had struck an “active” Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad command room embedded within the mosque in the school complex, reported the Times of Israel. The IDF claimed further that according to its intelligence, at least 20 terror operatives, including “senior commanders,” were at the site when it was struck. Middle East Eye stressed that Hamas has repeatedly rejected Israeli accusations that it operates from civilian facilities such as schools and hospitals.
