FBI Raid and Indictment against Uhuru Movement—Court Action Sept. 3

In Federal court in St. Petersburg, Florida, on September 3, will begin a trial of great significance concerning defense of Constitutional rights. The case involves a 2022 raid by the FBI and other actions against the Uhuru Movement and its associated African People’s Socialist Party. A rally will be held on August 31. The essential background follows.

On July 29, 2022, after seven years of a harassing “investigation,” the FBI conducted a pre-dawn, militarized raid of seven homes and offices of the Uhuru Movement and its associated African People’s Socialist Party in St. Petersburg, FL, and St. Louis, MO, according to the Black Agenda Report. In April, 2023 a Federal indictment was issued in a Florida Federal court, claiming that the group used “agitation and propaganda” to sow discord in America, organized protests, ran candidates for elected office, and wrote – under Russian directives – a letter to the United Nations complaining of “genocide of African people” in the U.S.
