Carlo Masala, from the Bundeswehr University in Munich, and Gustav Gressel, at the European Council on Foreign Relations, have voiced doubts about Ukraine’s decision to attack the Russian region of Kursk. “This is a high-risk strategy by Ukraine. We don’t know how it will ultimately end,” Masala told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). “It could also end with this operation doing Ukraine more harm than good in the long term.” Ukraine “could make better use of these resources in the Donbass, because the fronts there are now very unstable.”
Gressel, a former official at the Austrian defense ministry, said that with any further advance, more and more Ukrainian personnel will have to move in and more material will have to be delivered. Gressel warned: “The Kursk maneuver could herald the military end of Ukraine.”
