Germany’s AfD Ahead in Latest Brandenburg Opinion Polls

An opinion poll published yesterday by wahlrecht.org sees the rightwing-populist Alternative for Germany party (AfD) ahead in the Brandenburg state parliament election on Sept. 22, with 28.5%—a rather remarkable result, as all the other parties and the mainstream media are united in attacking the AfD. A close second is the Social Democrats (SPD) with 26%, followed by the Christian Democrats (CDU) at 16% and the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party at 14%. The pro-war Greens are seen at 5% or below, where they risk being wiped out of any representation in parliament.

The two state parliament elections on Sept. 1 in (Thuringia and Saxony](https://eir.news/2024/09/news/saxony-and-thuringia-elections-a-strong-vote-against-the-war/) anticipated the AfD would be the winner in Thuringia and come in second in Saxony—also in spite of the all-out campaign of the other parties and the media against it. Wagenknecht’s BSW, the new pro-peace party, also showed considerable strength.
