On Aug. 30, the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office (USTR) announced a delay in implementing certain U.S. tariffs already approved on China, affecting U.S. industry. The Global Times reported, “The U.S. government’s decision to once again postpone the announcement of a final determination for additional tariffs on a wide range of Chinese products, including electric vehicles (EVs), fully reflected the growing opposition from U.S. businesses and industries.”
Global Times reports that the USTR was scheduled to announce the final determination for the tariffs last week, but on Aug. 30 it delayed the announcement again. The USTR, according to Reuters, claims it will make the determination “in the coming days.” At the end of July, the USTR announced that the implementation of the tariffs, which had been scheduled for Aug. 1, would be delayed for at least two weeks.
