The Arab League’s meeting of foreign ministers will include Türkiye for the first time in over a decade. The Sept. 10 meeting in Cairo will be attended by Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Türkiye’s invitation presumably required the consent of Syria, which was readmitted to the Arab League just last year. Talks to normalize the Türkiye-Syria relationship have failed due to Syria’s demand that Türkiye withdraw its troops from Syrian territory.
The invitation to Türkiye also comes shortly after President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi visited President Erdogan in Ankara for his first trip to Türkiye in 12 years. The two countries exchanged diplomatic representatives for the first time in a decade.
