Was Attack on Russian Arms Depot Part of the Zelenskyy ‘Victory Plan’?

Was yesterday’s attack on the Toropets arms depot in Russia’s Tver region part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s “victory plan?” Associated Press noted yesterday that the “strike came after a senior U.S. diplomat—U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield—said Zelenskyy’s recently announced plan to win the war “can work and help end the conflict that’s now in its third year.”

The attack was carried out by Ukraine’s Security Service, along with Ukraine’s Intelligence and Special Operations Forces, an unnamed Kiev-regime security official told AP. The official claimed that the depot housed Iskander and Tochka-U missiles, as well as glide bombs and artillery shells.

Aside from the fact that there was an attack on the storage facility which triggered massive explosions and large fires, it’s still not really clear what happened in Toropets. Tver Region Governor Igor Rudenya claimed that fires were started by “falling drone fragments” from a drone that was shot down early in the morning, but videos published on the Telegram social media platform in the hours after the attack, suggested something worse than “fragments” of a destroyed drone. One video showed what looks like a rocket in the final seconds of flight before hitting the ground and exploding. Three other videos show thick columns of smoke rising from four distinct points at the location. The explosions were reportedly powerful enough to register on seismographs up to 2.8 on the Richter scale.

Theories circulating on Russian telegram channels range from a missile attack launched by NATO from Latvia, to the attack being no different from hundreds of Ukrainian drone attacks launched by Ukraine against Russia over the last six months.
