Iran’s New President To Attend BRICS Summit, Meet Putin Again

Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to attend the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia over Oct. 22-24, where he will also have a one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This will be his first visit to Russia since he took office in July. His visit follows on the productive Oct. 11 meeting of the two leaders with their delegations in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Coverage by AFP on Sept. 24 in Al-Arabiya of Pezeshkian’s planned travel adds that an Iranian government spokesperson said that a “strategic partnership agreement” between Iran and Russia “is almost finalized.”

The Secretary of Iran’s National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian attended the 14th Meeting of BRICS High-Ranking Officials responsible for security matters in St. Petersburg, Sept. 10-12, according to the Tehran Times.
