”[T]he most important question to be answered on Election Day is whether the United States will seek a negotiated settlement of its proxy war with Russia or pursue its current policy of serial escalation in Ukraine,” says an opinion piece published Oct. 14 in Newsweek. “That is the only choice that involves an immediate and potentially existential threat to the nation.”
This is only partly true, as it ignores the existential threat to the world coming from Southwest Asia.
“Ukraine has as much chance of defeating Russia as Mexico does of defeating the United States,” write co-authors, former U.S. diplomats Michael Gfoeller and David H. Rundell.
