Under the theme “Classical Civilizations and the Modern World,” a three-day “World Conference of Classics” took place in Beijing over Nov. 6-8, reported the Global Times on Nov. 7. The conference was jointly organized by China and Greece, with more than 400 scholars and experts attending, many of whom described the conference as an milestone in the history of Classical studies.
Importantly, the aim of the conference was to explore how classical civilizations can contribute wisdom, insight, and strength to assist in the development of human society in the future. As a professor from Princeton University stated: “The incredibly rich traditions of ancient China can contribute a wealth of new perspectives to the study of other civilizations and global antiquity as a system…. For our shared future, we must understand and inspire one another. And this is our only future.”
