President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed Government Efficiency Secretary Elon Musk met with Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani to discuss ways of easing tensions between Iran and the United States, according to the New York Times. Citing anonymous sources, the New York Times reported that the meeting took place in New York on Nov. 11 and lasted for more than an hour. The meeting was reportedly “positive” and “good news.”

Neither side has officially confirmed that such a meeting took place. Asked about whether there was such a meeting, Steven Cheung, Mr. Trump’s communications director, said: “We do not comment on reports of private meetings that did or did not occur.” The Trump team’s transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, however, said in a statement that the American people had re-elected Trump because they trust him to “restore peace through strength around the world.” “When he returns to the White House, he will take the necessary action to do just that,” TASS quoted her as saying.
