NATO Building Up Romania as Base Against Russia

NATO is now building up Romania to be a major base of operations against Russia. Romania Insider reported on Nov. 1 that NATO recently staged one of its largest military exercises in months at the Cincu training ground, about 200 km northwest of the Romanian capital of Bucharest. Over 1,500 soldiers from seven allied countries simulated a response to an invasion scenario involving the country’s “urgent defense.” Fighter jets dropped bombs, and thousands of bullets were fired as NATO forces executed a large-scale response exercise intended to test the alliance’s reaction capabilities on its eastern flank.

France has promised to be able to deploy over 3,500 troops to Romania within ten days as part of NATO’s rapid reaction force and to have that capability in place in 2024, Romania Insider news site reported further. By 2027, NATO aims to be able to deploy approximately 25,000 soldiers to Romania within 30 days as part of its commitment to strengthening defenses in Eastern Europe.
