Germany’s leading weekly magazine Der Spiegel publishes an updated version of the “Ukrainian Divers Did It” story on the Sept. 26, 2022 sabotage of the German-Russian Nord Stream gas pipelines, charging German foreign intelligence and the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz with having not acted on warnings by Western intelligence that a terrorist attack was planned for June 2022. Since nothing like that happened in June (the date Seymour Hersh said U.S. Navy divers planted the explosives), the Germans thought there was nothing to this warning and stayed inactive, neither informing the German Navy nor other institutions.
“The consequences of the attack were not only a blessing for Ukraine, but also for Germany,” said the alleged mastermind of the Nord Stream attacks, Roman Tscherwinsky, in his interview with Der Spiegel. The former Ukrainian intelligence officer, who is in custody for a different matter, is said to have led the sabotage commando, which consisted of several Ukrainian divers, Spiegel claims its research found. Another person, who was apparently involved in the preparations for the attack, told Der Spiegel that they did not want to harm Germany, but Russia, since the pipeline was a cash cow for Moscow.
