The Lead

What Promise Does the Future Hold?

by Jason Ross (EIRNS) — Dec. 22, 2024

We are beset by dangers that can be overcome by an overwhelming support for a new paradigm.

Ukraine’s recent attack on civilian targets in Kazan, Russia, site of the Oct. 22-24 BRICS Summit, raises the question of NATO’s use of increased Ukrainian escalations to drive Russia into a response that would make impossible any resolution by Trump, the would-be peacemaker. Zelenskyy’s announcement that Ukraine’s new UN ambassador will be Andriy Melnyk, a noted supporter of the Hitlerite Stepan Bandera, doesn’t bode well for peace. Consider the collapse of the Syrian government and the effective occupation of its territory by the U.S. and regional powers Israel and Turkïye that has ensued. Will Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, already engaged in elimination of Palestinians, take the opportunity to launch major strikes on Iran? Will the outgoing U.S. executive be driven to launch the attack itself?

In Romania and Georgia, we see the hypocrisy of those who speak frequently of “democracy” while meaning something else, and of the supposed sanctity of elections. The November results of Romania’s presidential elections were annulled earlier this month, based on supposed interference, widely reported to be Russia’s doing. That annulment is itself being challenged in court, and it has been revealed that the social media campaign that was said to have been conducted by Russia was actually financed by the ruling party that wanted to overturn the election results! In Georgia, the incumbent President (who did not secure her re-election) has declared that she will not leave office, as she is the only legitimate representative of Georgia, because of Russian interference in the country’s elections. The Anglo-Americans have begun the process of applying sanctions on Georgian leaders for the crime of winning democratic election.

Such are the deadly outcomes—both future and present—of the oligarchical system that is passing from this Earth, and which has the potential to take all of humanity with it.

In contrast, see the results of China’s paradigm of scientific, technological, and economic growth. It now produces 65% of the world’s ships (which is striking fear into the momentarily superior U.S. Navy), and its scientists have used the samples of lunar material from the far side of the Moon, provided by Chang’e-6, to bring new insight into the evolution of the magnetic field of our heavenly neighbor.

Contrast also the approach of Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico (shot by a would-be assassin on May 15), who just met with Russian President Putin to discuss “the possibilities of an early, peaceful end of the war.”

Every week, the LaRouche movement demonstrates its efforts to end war in the only sustainable way: by bringing into being a new paradigm of development, science, and security. This is a good time to reflect on the December 7-8 Schiller Institute conference.
