Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Makes First Step in African Energy Integration

Nigeria’s huge Dangote oil refinery, the seventh largest in the world, began shipping Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) (gasoline) to the neighboring West African nation of Cameroon on Dec. 11. The move is seen as Dangote’s contribution to achieving African self-sufficiency in petroleum products and pan-African energy integration. It is the first step in plans to export fuel to South Africa, Angola and Namibia, according to a report in Sputnik. The shipment follows an agreement between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Cameroon’s Neptune Oil, Dangote refinery CEO Aliko Dangote said in a joint statement with Neptune Oil CEO Antoine Ndzengue.

“This first export of Premium Motor Spirit to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa,” Dangote stated, adding that it “marks a significant step towards regional energy integration, aiming to strengthen economic ties and meet growing energy demands in the region. With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people.”
