The New Year: Defining the Destiny for All Humankind

Either doom from nuclear warfare, or the success of a new, worldwide paradigm of productive relations exists as potentials for the New Year.

The old year ends with the atrocity committed in Gaza on Dec. 27, by Israeli forces smashing and torching the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last hospital in northern Gaza, expelling and beating staff and patients. Hospital Director Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is under arrest, reportedly being held at the infamous Sde Teiman prison in Israel’s Negev Desert, and likely being tortured. The horror includes the fact that leaders in the Collective West watch on, approving mass murder in Gaza.

Today, the Director General of the World Health Organization Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus issued an appeal from Geneva for a ceasefire, and for Israel to stop making hospitals into “battlegrounds.” Even in Israel, the newspaper Haaretz ran an appeal, headlined, “Leave Gaza’s Hospitals Alone.” Posted as the lead editorial, the influential daily said that the systemic attacks on Gaza’s hospitals and medical personnel by the Israel Defense Forces are violations of the Geneva Convention’s statutes forbidding war against hospitals, and its purpose appears to be that of “ethnic cleansing.”

Yesterday, the Doctors Against Genocide organization held an emergency international webinar, where physicians, political leaders, other experts, a UN official, and others gave reports and conferred on action. Lasting nearly four hours, the discussion included the focus of reviewing what all kinds of activities can be done to stop the genocide. In the U.S. next week, after the new Congress convenes and starts work on the week of Jan. 6, doctors and the widest spectrum of fellow activists plan to be organizing on Capitol Hill. Demonstrations and visits will go on weekly, not just to make a statement, but to change the present U.S. policy as fast as possible. Plans are in motion among other nations.

Organizing is underway for the first 2025 weekly meeting of the International Peace Coalition on Jan. 3 to confer on furthering this international mobilization.

In dramatic opposition to these efforts, representatives of the U.S., the United Kingdom, and Israel today said repeatedly at the UN in New York, “Israel has the right to defend itself” in any way it may choose to do. They spoke at a UN Security Council session this morning, requested by Israel, and convened by the U.S. as the last of its functions before the U.S.’ December chairmanship of the Council ends tomorrow. The scene was sickening, given what is happening in Gaza.

Moreover, the topic of today’s Security Council session, titled “Threats to International Peace and Security,” was the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Yemen, and again, representatives of the U.S., U.K. and Israel, spoke with the same script, all saying that Iran is “enabling” the Houthis against Israel. Therefore, as the diplomats intended, the loud and clear unspoken message is that an attack on Iran is justified and could take place any time.

That would be the short road to world war and nuclear holocaust.

Schiller Institute founder and leader Helga Zepp-LaRouche, in reviewing the year-end crises, especially the “mindset of people tolerating genocide,” called attention to the opportunities for the world represented by the success shown in China, after following development principles. This can be the war of the future for all.

Look at the reality. For example, China has built 46,000 km of high-speed rail. They have test run a Bullet train at a speed of 450 km, with excellent performance. Today China announced the opening of what is now the world’s longest expressway tunnel. The Tianshan Shengli (meaning “Victory") Tunnel runs 22.13 kilometers) in the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang. Also today, China released a report on the achievements of the first two years of its space station.

China, along with Russia, and a number of others of the 10 rotating members of the UN Security Council, strongly spoke out in today’s session, against the U.S., U.K. and Israel “mindset” for war and genocide.

Our mandate for 2025 is to bring together forces of good will from the world over for the common mission of peace and development.

Happy New Year from all at EIR News!
