German Journalist Says Ukraine War Will Catalyze Decline of West

German journalist Patrick Baab, in a segment of an interview which has been circulating on social media in recent days, argued that there is no realistic scenario in which the Kiev regime will ever recover the lost territories in the east. Baab is a longtime editor at Norddeutscher Rundfunk-NDR Television, and he was a lecturer in journalism at the University of Media, Communication, and Economics in Berlin. He was reportedly fired from his university position in 2022 for his “alleged participation as an international observer in the sham referendum in territories occupied by Russia….”

“There is no scenario, no military scenario, in which Ukraine will win this war. And in my assessment, the West will also lose this war,” he told the interviewer. “The war in Ukraine will be the catalyst for the decline of the West and the collapse of the U.S. as a hegemonic market. This is the core from which all this will flow. And Putin knows this. The West does not want to see this and is reacting, in my opinion, inadequately.”

Russia will win because “the Russians have five to ten times the artillery and missile superiority,” he concluded. “More weapons. They can use more soldiers. And because they rely on the time factor. They know what they want, and they have their goals. Their goals are clear. They do what the Russians always do. They take their time. As in Kursk, they let the opponent run into the room, and then gradually close it.”

Subsequent investigation has determined that this segment came from an interview with Baab by Dr. Daniele Ganser, a Swiss historian and peace researcher, recorded on Nov. 21, 2024, and posted in full to YouTube on Dec. 16, in German. Baab is the author of a book on the Ukraine conflict, Auf beiden Seiten der Front (On Both Sides of the Front), published in the fall of 2023.
