NBC released a six-minute excerpt of an interview journalist Lester Holt conducted with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian from Tehran. Many of the questions Holt posed were geared around the standard Western narrative. For example, the headline coverage of the interview was “Iran ‘never’ plotted to kill Trump during campaign, Iran’s president tells NBC.” Despite this, the Iranian president managed to convey Iran’s position for peace amidst this dangerous situation, and that they are open for dialogue with the Trump administration so long as commitments are upheld.
Pezeshkian was asked if he would be willing to sit down with Trump, to which he responded: “The problem we have is not in dialogue, it’s in the commitments from talk and dialogue” Iran has upheld their commitments, he said, but it was the other party that did not live up to theirs.
