A group of far-right members of Israel’s Knesset, from the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, have written to Defense Minister Israel Katz to complain that the genocide against Palestinians is not being carried out “properly”—not as fast and efficiently as it should. These members of the ruling Likud party and its coalition partners, Religious Zionism, Jewish Power and Shas, demanded that Katz immediately order the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to destroy all food, water and power supplies in northern Gaza and consider any man, woman or child not carrying a white flag as a legitimate target to be killed. The news, originally covered on Jan. 2 by Israel’s daily Haaretz, appeared today in Iran Front Page.
The letter makes no attempt to hide the genocidal implications of what its authors propose, which is the annihilation of Gaza’s population, by any means necessary, claiming that the IDF has failed completely to achieve its objectives of dismantling Hamas’s governance and military operations. Hospitals are obviously assumed to be Hamas “military operations.” The fact that 70,000 Palestinian civilians still remain in northern Gaza, albeit starving and ill, with no shelter or medical care, and bombed daily by the IDF, in the eyes of these lawmakers constitutes evidence of the Army’s failure to “properly” expel the Palestinians from the area.
Needed immediately, they demand, is a total blockade, destroy essential infrastructure and carry out the “complete cleansing” of the region. Nor should this be limited to northern Gaza, they add, but applied to “every other region” of the Gaza Strip. The committee members fiercely attacked other Israeli army officials for failing to provide clear explanations during committee sessions as to why all these measures haven’t yet been adopted, demanding to know exactly what the Army’s strategy is. Finish the job, they demand. That the UN International Court of Justice is pursuing charges of genocide against Israel and that the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant means nothing to these butcher, as they have no expectation of punishment for the crimes they are committing.
