U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance lectured the stunned audience, largely NATO advocates, gathered at the Munich Security Conference today on the nature of free speech, accusing the Europeans of “retreating” from shared values, such as democracy. He raised the issue of the elections being canceled in Romania, of EU Commissioner Thierry Breton’s threat to do the same in Germany, and of the so-called firewall against Germany’s AfD party. The retreat from shared values, not Russia or China, is the main threat to Europe, Vance declared. He reproached the organizers of the Feb. 14-16 conference for banning extreme left and right parties from participating at the meeting. As for the allegations of U.S. interference in the German electoral process, Vance said: If the U.S.A. survived 10 years of reproaches from Greta Thunberg, you can survive a few months of Musk!”
He quoted Pope John Paul II: Do not be afraid of our people even when they express views that disagree with their leadership.
