The European summit held in Paris yesterday, seems to have been a complete bust, breaking up after three hours with no formal statement. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was first out of the meeting, leaving the Elysée Palace before the meeting had ended. “We welcome the fact that talks are taking place, that peace is developing everywhere. But for us it must be and is clear: This does not mean that peace can be dictated and that Ukraine must accept what is presented to it,” he declared, reported AP.

But the point of disagreement among the leaders was U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s push for European troops in Ukraine, as signalled in an article he had written in The Telegraph on Feb. 16. On the one side was Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who warned ahead of the Paris meeting, “A ceasefire must not lead to Russian rearmament, which is followed by new Russian attacks.”
