President Trump has gotten into a huff over legislation last year by South Africa which indicated that the government can in certain circumstances, offer “zero compensation” for property it decides to expropriate in the public interest. This has been part of a continual fight since the end of apartheid where most of the land remains in white ownership.
Elon Musk, who has complained himself about the measure, has no doubt also riled up the President. Trump sent out on Feb. 2 on Truth Social the following message: “South Africa is confiscating land and treating certain classes of people very badly. I will be cutting off all further funding to South Africa until a full investigation into this situation is completed!”
