Zakharova Blasts UN Secretary General Guterres for Ignoring Role of Soviet Union in Stopping Nazi Germany

TASS reports that Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova angrily denounced UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for his remarks at an event at the UN General Assembly on Jan. 27 and at Park East Synagogue Memorial Service in Honor of the Victims of the Holocaust on Jan. 25. Her remarks were posted on Feb. 1, on the Russian page of the Foreign Ministry website, in response to a media question.

January 27, 1945 marks the day the Red Army liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and has become the date for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, according to the United Nations. Moreover, January 27, 1944, is the anniversary of the Lifting of the Siege of Leningrad.
