March 29, 2025 (EIRNS)—Ivan Kanapathy, now the Senior Director for Asia at the National Security Council under Mike Waltz, is a leading China hawk. As Senior NSC Director he is responsible for crafting the Trump administration’s approach to China and Taiwan. A report by Laura Loomer, a far-right activist who ran for Congress in Florida and is reported to have connections with Donald Trump, complains about Kanapathy being allowed into the Trump team without being vetted and excluded.
Kanapathy previously worked with former CIA officials and Democratic Trump-haters Mike Morrell and Leon Panetta at Beacon Global Strategies where Kanapathy was the Senior Vice President, Loomer reports. The firm is close to Hillary Clinton and prides itself on being “bipartisan,” with war hawks from both parties. Morrell and Panetta were signers of the intelligence letter claiming that the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian fake news, a scam which prompted Tulsi Gabbard to recently lift the security clearance of all 51 signers. Morrell was the ringleader of the letter, which he said was to give Joe Biden a “talking point” ahead of a 2020 Presidential debate against then-President Donald Trump. Biden did, in fact, say this in the debate.
