Smear Campaign Launched To Prevent Dilma Rousseff’s Second Term as NDB Chief

March 1, 2025 (EIRNS)—The Wall Street-City of London “money boys” are worried that the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) could be transformed into the key credit-issuing institution for the development of the Global South that it was intended to be, if former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff is reappointed as president of the bank next July, as is currently scheduled. At the end of the 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, host Russian President Vladimir Putin had thrown his considerable political weight behind Rousseff serving a second term.

The campaign to oust her was launched through Folha de São Paulo, one of Brazil’s big Anglo-American-allied Establishment dailies, which published an ad hominem attack against Rousseff’s role at the bank on Feb. 28. Folha’s article was not journalism, but a hit-job, making wild assertions based on anonymous documents and sources to create an illusion that there might be something true in its claim that “about to start a second term at the helm of the New Development Bank, the BRICS bank, former President Dilma Rousseff has left a trail of late targets, reports of bullying, dismissals and criticism for mismanagement at the institution since she took over in April 2023.”
