March 1, 2025 (EIRNS)—Russian newspaper Kommersant, in an article translated and published by RT, rounded up some responses of Russian experts to the blowup between President Donald Trump and Kiev regime leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
• Anastasia Likhacheva, dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University: “Zelenskyy, with incredible persistence, demonstrated the behavior of a person without a plan B, which violates any negotiation logic. The simple conclusion is that his main goal was to demonstrate an unwillingness to negotiate.”
• Maksim Suchkov, director of the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO University: “Zelenskyy pressed all the ‘buttons’ that should never be pressed in negotiations with Trump—both in his style of communication with the U.S. president and in the content of his arguments. ... However, one shouldn’t be too optimistic about what was witnessed. The U.S. holds the keys to ending the conflict: it could disable Starlink, on which Ukraine’s entire military command system relies, and within a week, the war would be over. But the U.S. does not do this, because it feels it can extract even more from the situation. Zelenskyy’s visit gives Moscow an opportunity for an additional move. It must be used wisely.”
