Two Boeing 737 MAX aircraft recently delivered to China have been flown back to the U.S., as part of the ongoing trade war. One jet returned to Boeing Field in Seattle on the evening of April 20, and flight data show a second jet en route on April 21. Both planes were intended for Xiamen Airlines and are valued at some $55 million each.
This follows China’s request last week that its airlines pause purchases or leases of American-built aircraft, in response to the U.S. imposing a 145% tariff on Chinese goods. China countered with a 125% tariff on U.S. products. China had been Boeing’s largest overseas customer, with 130 aircraft still on order.
