In an interview with Kommersant April 14, posted to the Russian Foreign Ministry website, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov laid out the policy that would end the NATO proxy-war in Ukraine and provide for a global peace. He asserted that the Trump administration is attempting to understand and get at the causes of the Ukraine war, while the European leaders have “literally gone haywire in their frenzy,” and, he said, should Ukraine’s Zelenskyy be ousted, they would find some “new half-baked Führer” to replace him.
Lavrov declared, “President of the United States Donald Trump has said many times already that the decision by the Joe Biden administration to drag this country [Ukraine] into NATO was a major mistake. Among other things, it served as a trigger … in terms of what is happening today in Ukraine. There were some promises before that, but when Joe Biden came to power, they started focusing on this agenda. President of the United States Donald Trump has recognized in public several times that he viewed this as one of the root causes.”
Lavrov emphasized Russia’s indispensable role in building up Ukraine over centuries: “Not only did Russians assist this country for centuries, but also developed it and built cities like Odessa and many others, as well as ports, roads, factories and plants.” And the Russian-language speakers who built Ukraine “were literally exterminated.”
He continued: “From a legal perspective, judging by the laws Ukraine has today, they have cancelled everything Russian. They adopted several series of laws, about a dozen, long before Russia decided that it had no other choice than to launch the special military operation. And Donald Trump’s administration clearly understands this.
