Russia will soon launch a new national space project, President Vladimir Putin announced during an April 16 meeting at Bauman Moscow State Technical University focused on long-term space development. The initiative is set to be fully funded in the 2026–2028 federal budget cycle and will encompass satellite systems, deep space exploration, and the construction of a national orbital station.
Putin met with students and top scientists, alongside the heads of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Roscosmos, the Kurchatov Institute, the Space Forces, several federal ministries, and university leaders. The meeting followed earlier discussions held in March.
Russian space industry must become a key driving force for national development overall, driving “the technological upgrading of the economy” and “a rise in living standards.”
“First and foremost, the national project must clearly and precisely articulate both the short- and long-term goals of Russia’s space program. This will allow us to immediately set concrete tasks for science, education and personnel training.”
