The leaders of France, Germany, Poland and the U.K. arrived in Kiev early this morning to jointly “call on Russia to stop obstructing efforts to achieve lasting peace” and agree to a 30-day ceasefire “complete and unconditionally.” As reported, they demand in a joint declaration that Russia must stop “the invasion” and that “Ukraine must be able to thrive as a secure and sovereign nation within its internationally recognized borders for generations to come.”

In their declaration, the four heads leaders announced that they would increase their support for the Ukraine regime. “Until Russia agrees to an enduring ceasefire, we will ratchet up pressure on Russia’s war machine,” says the statement, as posted on the U.K. government website, in English and Ukrainian.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in particular used a London speech before his May 9 departure to Kiev to paint the image of a Russian threat to Europe against which the Europeans must respond by building for “war readiness” and supply Ukraine with military matériel to continue the war against Russia. Starmer emphasized that the U.K. has so far trained 50,000 Ukrainian men and women for combat.

The four leaders will hold an online meeting as well in Kiev, to which the governments of the “Coalition of the Willing” have been invited.
