Not long after Pakistan claimed its military had shot down five Indian fighter jets involved in airstrikes on Pakistani territory, evidence began circulating first in social media and then in news media reports that the Pakistani air force used Chinese-made PL-15 long range air-to-air missiles for the kills. The use of the PL-15 would be significant because it’s an advanced weapon that was originally developed for use by China’s J-20 stealth fighter. Secondly, it’s reported to have a range of 200-300 km in Chinese service, though the export version reportedly has been reduced to a range of 145 km, which is still long enough to kill Indian fighter jets flying in Indian airspace from Pakistani airspace.
