As Arab leaders convened in Baghdad for the 34th Arab League Summit to address the crisis in Gaza, Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited them to Moscow for the first-ever Russia-Arab Summit, set for October 15. The President’s website has released an excerpt from Putin’s official invitation.

Putin acknowledged the severe toll of death and suffering in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and calls for enhanced cooperation to resolve the issues. He emphasized the Arab League’s key role in multilateral dialogue and reiterated Russia’s support for diplomatic solutions grounded in international law and respect for state sovereignty.

The President expressed Russia’s intent to deepen its engagement with the Arab League and its member states, and has therefore invited all the leaders to Moscow for the first Russia-Arab Summit. “I am confident that this meeting will help strengthen multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries and also search for ways to bring about peace, security and stability in the Middle East and North Africa,” Putin writes.
