Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a visit to the Kursk region on May 21. He met with the head of the Kursk region and with the heads of volunteer organizations. He assured them of the full support of the central government for the reconstruction and the humanitarian aid to those families that had been affected by the Ukrainian incursion. “What you are doing now during this difficult situation for this region, for this area, and for the country, will remain with you for the rest of your life as, perhaps, the most meaningful thing with which you were ever involved,” Putin said as he drank tea with the volunteers. He also underlined the importance of continuing to fight against the same kind of fascist policy that had been inflicted on the region during the Second World War. He noted the fact that the Ukrainian aggressors had also destroyed monuments to the victory during World War II, indicating that the Kursk residents today were dealing with neo-Nazis in this conflict. Putin also visited the Kursk-II nuclear reactor, now under construction, which had been a target for the Ukrainian forces in their incursion in the Kursk region.
