The White House announced today that a 60-day ceasefire agreement has been accepted by Israel and is under review by Hamas. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated today: “Israel signed off on this proposal before it was sent to Hamas. I can also confirm that those discussions are continuing, and we hope that a ceasefire in Gaza will take place so we can return all the hostages home.” It is presumed that the proposal heavily relies upon the Trump-Witkoff team applying muscle to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu told the hostages’ families this morning that he had accepted Witkoff’s proposal, according to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, and Hamas said today that it was “reviewing the new Witkoff proposal” and was “responsibly studying it in a way that serves the interests of our people, provides relief, and achieves a permanent ceasefire.”
The Times of Israel published a 13-point text of the Witkoff proposal, entitled “Framework for Negotiating an Agreement to a Permanent Ceasefire,” which was authenticated, they say, by “two sources familiar with the negotiations.” Witkoff “will preside over the negotiations,” and the “mediators-guarantors (U.S., Egypt, Qatar) will guarantee that the ceasefire will continue for the 60-day period and for any agreed-upon extension, will guarantee that serious discussions will be held on the necessary agreements for a permanent ceasefire and will make every effort to ensure the completion of the above-mentioned negotiations.”
