Former military and intelligence officials Col. (ret.) Larry Wilkerson and former CIA agent and director of the State Department Counterterrorism Division Larry Johnson, issued stark warnings yesterday about the quagmire into which President Donald Trump has already waded, with his public support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lying claim that Iran is developing a nuclear bomb, threatening the U.S. may join Israel in its war on Iran.
Speaking on the “Dialogue Works” program, on June 17, Wilkerson, a member of the Veterans Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) argued that the claim that Iran is building a nuclear weapon is “preposterous as a casus belli"—this has been said for the last 15 years. “We twist the IAEA around our fingers,” he reported, so, why did the IAEA come out with this latest report [attacking Iran] at such a propitious moment?” Savaging Netanyahu as a murderer and genocidal maniac, Wilkerson warns that the U.S. giving its blessing to Netanyahu’s murderous policies “is setting a precedent that won’t go away for a long time.” Worse, Trump is talking about dangers beyond Iran, such as actions against Russian ships in the Baltic Sea.
