U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who is heading the U.S. team at the British-sponsored Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore over May 30-June 1, was interviewed on Fox News soon after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth issued a diatribe against China at the event. Although speaking diplomatically, Gabbard essentially refuted the Hegseth provocation.

Gabbard started by emphasizing that President Donald Trump is committed to being a “President of Peace,” and that this applies to the Asia-Pacific region, reminding Fox that she comes from the region (Hawaii). She described the Shangri-La Dialogue as an important opportunity for “one-on-one” meetings with foreign leaders in Asia, then referenced the fact that JFK and Reagan had emphasized the importance of diplomacy.
